The Salvation Of Souls
The salvation of souls is the single greatest thing that can ever happen on the face of this planet. The reason is because the soul of man is eternal. In other words, whatever it is you are, you will be forever and forever. I realize that’s a long, long time, but it happens to be the truth.
While the physical body goes back to dust, the soul and the spirit of man exists and lasts forever.
So, when a person dies, his soul and his spirit instantly goes to heaven or to hell, depending on his knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ, or the lack thereof.
Morning Prayer
Every morning when I go to the office to get ready for the program, which begins at 7 a.m. (CT), I spend about an hour before the Lord in prayer and study of the Word.
This particular morning, I could not seem to pray. It seemed like heaven was brass. But all of a sudden, it came to my mind the illustration of Jesus performing a miracle that resulted in two boats being completely filled with fish. I am going to quote the entire passage here from The Expositor’s Study Bible:
“And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon Him to hear the Word of God, He stood by the lake of Gennesaret (the Sea of Galilee), And saw two ships standing by the lake (two among the many): but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets (Peter, Andrew, James, and John had fished all night and caught nothing). And he entered into one of the ships which was Simon’s (proclaims Him borrowing this vessel to serve as a platform or pulpit), and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And He sat down (the custom then), and taught the people out of the ship. Now when He had left speaking (had finished preaching and teaching), He said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught (came as a surprise to these fishermen; they had fished all night and caught nothing, so they must have wondered as to what He was doing; in effect, He will pay for the use of the boat; God will owe man nothing). And Simon answered and said unto Him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at Your Word I will let down the net (the idea is that Peter would not have bothered himself to have let down the net on the word of anyone else other than Jesus). And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net broke (so many fish that it broke the net). And they beckoned unto their partners (Peter and Andrew beckoned to James and John), which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both ships, so that they began to sink. (Christ had the same power over the fish of the sea as he had over the frogs, lice, and locusts of Egypt)” (Luke 5:1-7).
The Lord Spoke To My Heart
It is a powerful thing when the Lord addresses Himself to an individual. There are times that this happens, and you feel it is the Lord, and then there are times when you know it is the Lord. I knew this was the Lord speaking to me because His presence came all over me. He told me, “As I worked a miracle for My disciples regarding the fish, I am going to work a miracle regarding this ministry. You are going to see more souls saved than you ever have, in fact, more than the church as a whole has ever seen.” I knew it was the Lord. And I believe it has already begun.
But—and I say this over and over again—irrespective as to what the Lord does, I cannot get anything done without your help. I thank God for the many of you who are so faithful with your prayerful support and your financial support—thank you!
I want you to pray with me on a daily basis that this thing will come to pass speedily. I believe it is going to be done, and it is going to be miraculous, and it is going to result in more souls saved than we have ever seen. In the 1980s, I believe we saw more people saved than had ever been saved before. Keep believing!
In the Master’s service, yours,
Jimmy Swaggart
